As February comes to a close, the Maryland Area Combat Robotics Organization (MACRO) is set to host an event that is sure to be a smashing good time. With robots in the 150g US Fairyweight, 1lb US Antweight, and 1lb Plastic Antweight classes competing, there’s sure to be some banger matches and a stacked field! Without further ado, let’s get into the competitors.
In 150g fairyweights, 5 robots in Amputator, Combustion, Daydream, The Lion, and Tinker Bot will be battling it out! Amputator, a 4WD overhead saw robot, is sure to capitalize on the typically low top armor strength that goes into these tiny bots. Meanwhile we have Lars Elliott and Combustion who just came off an undefeated Motorama win earlier this month. Highly regarded as one of the best 2WD fairy verts in existence, Combustion is sure to take some names. Last bot to look out for is Team Scrap Yard’s Tinker Bot. Don’t let its lack of an active weapon fool you; Tinker Bot boasts 2nd and 3rd place finishes at GSCRL events and will definitely be able to take hits like a champ.
Despite only having 5 robots, the fairyweights are looking to be a hard-hitting class.
In the full combat antweight division, some equally hard hitters will be showing up. A notable contender is Lars’ towering beast in Deep 67, which showed out at the Big Apple Bash event, taking home a win over some good robots such as my own, Zip! Some other notable robots coming will be Doom Slug (a larger version of Amputator), an absurdly massive horizontal bar in ROFL Copter, and the avid Maryland builder Amelia Huffman with Stink Bug.
With massive weapons and high kinetic power, the 6 robots in the full combat antweight division will surely be bringing their A-game.
Lastly we have the 1lb Plastic Antweights. This class is the largest, with 34 robots set to compete. These bots are known for their low cost and ease of creation, being made of entirely 3D printed materials (aside from motors and electronics). They’re a great starting point for new builders with a 3D printer looking to get into the sport. Let’s meet the field’s most notable contenders!
AKUUUU!!!, a notably belted drum spinner will be making an appearance. We love to see a good old-fashioned 4WD drum in plastic ants, and there’s no doubt this bot will be one to watch. Another team worth looking out for is Resonance Robotics with their bristle horizontal by name of Ame no Habakiri. Running a massive weapon motor, this bot will definitely be causing some destruction. Lars Elliott will be doubling down on plastic antweights, bringing in his highly feared spinner-lifter Ignis as well as an all-new plastic version of his 4WD vert Enigma. Another bot I’ll have my eyes peeled for will be Shul Shagana, a seasoned drumette going through a whole new redesign for this event!
What I just mentioned is a mere taste of what the plastic antweight class this weekend has to offer. For the whole list of competing robots, check out the event on BuildersDB or right here on the Havoc Rundown!
I’m wishing best of luck to all competitors this weekend! Keep your eyes out for the livestream on the MACRO YouTube channel. Or if you’re in the Elkridge MD area, feel free to stop by and watch the carnage in-person! The event will be taking place starting 11AM at the Grace Episcopal Church.
That’s all from me, have a wonderful weekend!
